EKN Exclusive: Superkarts! USA SuperNationals 21 – Preview Series – X30 Junior

The 2016 SKUSA SuperNationals came down to a wild finish in the X30 Junior category as a light sprinkle of rain covered the Las Vegas Convention Center parking lot. The changing conditions sent some drivers off into the barriers, while those who found a way to tip-toe around the damp circuit were able to capitalize and secure podium finishes. In the end, Florida’s Tyler Gonzalez came away with the victory in his first Junior start at the SuperNationals. Coming off that victory, the SRC / Tony Kart driver took 2017 by storm, earning a FWT championship to start before scoring the US Rotax Grand Nationals victory, and challenging for the SKUSA Pro Tour championship with one win. In the eight previous attempts, no X30 Junior / TaG Junior driver has been able to repeat as SuperNationals winner. Breaking that streak will be the goal for Gonzalez. EKN Exclusive: Superkarts! USA SuperNationals 21 – Preview Series – Mini Swift

The 2016 edition of the Mini Swift class battle at the SuperNationals kept parents and the fans on the edge of their seats until the final corner, with the race won at the line by Canadian Thomas Nepveu. Last year’s field was full of ‘veteran’ Cadet drivers although many of them moved up into the Junior ranks for this year or have done so prior to the SuperNationals. As a result of the mass graduation, the field this year has 40 drivers making their first start at the Las Vegas spectacular, bringing in a concern for those not familiar with the temporary circuit style of racing. The talent pool is still up there, as it is every year, with nearly half the field coming in from outside the United States. Read full story on eKartingNews.com

EKN Exclusive: Superkarts! USA SuperNationals 21 – Preview Series – Micro Swift

Last year was the inaugural event for the Micro Swift category. The addition of the category to the SKUSA Pro Tour in 2016 brought the youngest division to the SuperNationals for the first time, and it featured a near sold out field. It was a wild SuperSunday with a slight rain shower dampening the track just before the green flag, which provided for a wild opening few corners. This year’s edition of the race brings a new crop of young drivers who have graduated or moved into the Micro Swift division, who have their chance to shine now that several top drivers have moved up to Mini Swift. In total, 14 of the 36 drivers are returning for their second SuperNationals, including the inaugural winner Vinicius Tessaro. Read full story on eKartingNews.com

Las Vegas Strip Is Home to the Superkarts! USA SuperNationals 21 Circuit
Tuesday, 17 October 2017 08:19

The SKUSA SuperNationals 21 circuit is set for November 15-19 at the Las Vegas Convention Center and Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino

The Superkarts! USA SuperNationals has 20 years of history surrounding the bright lights of Las Vegas – from the ‘X-Plex’ to the Rio to Sam Boyd Stadium to the lots outside the Las Vegas Convention Center and the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino. The LVCC ‘Gold’ lot was home to the SuperNationals in 2015 and 2016. 2017 brings new racing turf as the event moves to the LVCC ‘Diamond’ lot, directly adjacent to the Westgate. The shift to the 1.25 million square foot space offers the opportunity for SKUSA to create a new track layout for the 21st running of the Superkarts! USA SuperNationals, set for November 15-19. One of the main features is that portions of the track are now directly next to the famous Las Vegas Strip.

This year, Superkarts! USA expanded the group of experienced karters tasked with designing the new layout outside the LVCC/Westgate to three. Last year’s track designers Howie Idelson and Bonnier Moulton were joined by 2003 SuperNationals winner Wesley Boswell. The 33-year-old from California first raced the SuperNats in 2001, and has been either a driver or mechanic in the years since. Boswell has become one of the most respected driver coaches within the industry, helping drivers throughout North America and at some of the largest international events in the world. Idelson and Moulton are the lone two drivers in SuperNationals history to compete at all 20 events. Idelson earned numerous victories and championships over the decades of karting, including competing in 12 different countries – while playing integral roles in multiple brands within the business. Moulton is a three-time SuperNationals winner in addition to being a key figure in the industry, having penned the initial layout of the now gone Black Rock Raceway in Utah.
