Superkarts! USA Confirms 2018 SuperNationals 22 Class Structure
Thursday, 28 June 2018 17:00

Superkarts! USA has confirmed the revised class structure for the popular and world-renowned SKUSA SuperNationals for 2018. The model will also guide the 2019 SKUSA ProTour competition program, as SKUSA ushers in the long awaited SKUSA SSE Engine from IAME.

Based on empirical evidence and customer feedback, SKUSA has decided that they will be combining both the senior and masters shifter kart categories into two new classes: ‘Pro Shifter’ and ‘Master Shifter.’ S1 and S2 will now be ‘Pro Shifter’ and S4 and S4SM will now simply be ‘Master Shifter.’

“Naturally, this was a difficult decision to make,” remarked SKUSA president Tom Kutscher. “The opinions are deeply divided on each side of the argument, and some may note that this is the second time we’ve proposed this. We reversed course once in the interests of a vocal minority; however, the entries no longer justify the current class structure.”

Plans in Full Motion for Superkarts! USA SuperNationals 22
Tuesday, 19 June 2018 09:22

It has been just over 200 days since the final checkered flag fell on the Superkarts! USA SuperNationals 21 last November. Planning for the 22nd edition of the world’s most spectacular karting event started even before the cleanup began. This year, the SKUSA SuperNationals makes a trip back to the Rio All-Suite Las Vegas Hotel & Casino on November 14-18, as the facility will host the famed event for the 10th time.

The Superkarts! USA SuperNationals made its first visit to the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in 2002 during the tenure of former CEO Jim Murley. It was the first year that the event debuted in the city itself, moving from its roots at the Las Vegas Karting Center, the storied track located south of the bright lights in Sloan, NV. The SuperNationals returned to the Rio in 2003 before moving to Sam Boyd Stadium for the next four years. In 2008, during the third season of the organization under the leadership of Tom Kutscher, the long-time SKUSA racer/team owner brought the event back to the Rio for an exciting seven-year run. During that time, the SuperNationals welcomed many high-profile drivers, including current Formula One driver Max Verstappen, seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, NASCAR’s Jamie McMurray and AJ Allmendinger, along with IndyCar’s Will Power, Sebastien Bourdais, Marco Andretti and the late Dan Wheldon. Now, after three years on the other side of the Las Vegas Strip, the SuperNationals returns to the Rio for 2018 and beyond.

The end of the 2008 racing season marked the return of the Superkarts! USA SuperNationals to the Rio Hotel Masquerade parking lot after a four-year stint at the Sam Boyd Stadium. The ‘TaG’ explosion was in full effect, and SKUSA had opened up the entries for the category. At first, the numbers were expected to be over the 100-driver mark, but in the end, a total of 95 were logged when the official sessions took place. Now, for the 2017, that record may be topped if all 96 of the pre-registered drivers arrive in Vegas for SuperNationals 21. SKUSA opened the door for more than the scheduled 88 as in year’s past, as last minute cancellations have always kept the field from being sold out. This year, the organization put in a buffer to make sure 88 was reached with eight extras still on the driver list heading into SuperNats week. Read full story on eKartingNews.com
