The opening round of the 2019 Superkarts! USA Winter Series enjoyed beautiful blue skies and mid-70s temperatures at the AMR Homestead-Miami Motorplex Presented by MG Tires on Saturday, as the track played host to over 230 drivers to kick off the new season. A strong field of over 50 competitors in X30 Senior was topped by reigning world champion Lorenzo Travisanutto (Kart Republic), who passed SKUSA #1 driver Ryan Norberg (Kosmic) on the final lap. In Pro Shifter, AJ Myers (Croc Promotion) was absolutely perfect all day as he held off the constant pressure of his chief rival Billy Musgrave (Aluminos).

In PSL Karting X30 Senior, Travisanutto was not the dominant force throughout the day. That honor belonged to Norberg, who was intent on paying off Mike Rolison for the confidence that the team owner showed in signing the reigning SKUSA champ for the 2019 season after he ‘parted ways’ with PSL Karting. Norberg dominated qualifying, topping impressive Senior rookie Arias Duekmedjian (Praga) by over a tenth. Canadian Patrick Woods-Toth was very quick as well, timing in third ahead of Jesus Rios Jr. (SoloKart) and Arthur Leist (Birel). Norberg and Rio won the two Prefinals that split the grid, qualifying the top-15 from each in the main. Felipe Nicoletti (Tony Kart) won the LCQ to start 31st in the main. The 2019 karting season officially gets underway this weekend as the first event of the new year calendar is set to take place. Superkarts! USA has taken that honor for the last two years, as the second edition of the SKUSA Winter Series opens on January 11-13 at the AMR Homestead-Miami Motorplex Presented by MG Tires in South Florida. The popular track will welcome over 230 entries in 11 categories to tackle the 12-turn, 7/10-mile course located in the shadows of Homestead-Miami Speedway.

The EKN Trackside Live coverage during the weekend will hit all of our platforms, including our EKN Social Media pages, as well as our live broadcast which will be available at www.ekartingnews.com/live. Those not in attendance can listen to the race call while viewing the live timing as the event unfolds. The EKN Live program is possible thanks to our broadcast partners Courtney Concepts, Rolison Performance Group and Alan Rudolph Racing Academy.

The big story of the event is the competition debut of the new IAME SSE engine through Superkarts! USA in the Pro Shifter and Master Shifter divisions. The 175cc, six-speed engine has been in development for over two years as SKUSA looks to provide the shifterkart engine of the future. Teams and drivers have been grabbing up engines and testing aggressively since they hit the market in late 2018, all in preparation for this season. 2018 SKUSA Pro Tour champion AJ Myers begins the 2019 season carrying the prestigious #1 SKUSA plate aboard his Mad Old Nut / Mad Croc machine. Myers has the home track advantage and will be tough to beat. Top contenders include Florida driver Mathias Ramirez, who is making his return to PSL / Birel ART for 2019. \ 2018 SKUSA Winter Series S2 Semi-Pro Stock Honda champion Rory van der Steur (CPI / Tony Kart), SKUSA #2 plate holder Kyle Wick (CRG Nordam) and Texas ProKart Challenge champion Max Hewitt (CRG Nordam) are among the young guns taking part in the IAME SSE debut. IndyCar and IMSA driver Sage Karam showed well in his return to karting at the SuperNationals last November, and he is back with iKart in his SKUSA Winter Series debut. SKUSA Confirms New Partnerships And Lower Entry Fees For Winter Series LO206 Racers
Thursday, 13 December 2018 16:55
Superkarts! USA today announced a joint partnership between Rysa Racing, South Florida Karting Club, and AMR Motorplex aimed squarely at helping LO206 racers for the upcoming SKUSA Winter Series. In an effort to promote grassroots competition and newcomers to the sport, the three have combined efforts to offer a promotional pricing entry structure for the second annual championship in Florida.

“We recognize the value LO206 represents to the sport as a whole,” commented SKUSA’s Tom Kutscher. “Getting people in seats is paramount to the long-term vision and we have found some amazing partners to offset the entry fees to make racing at the Winter Series as inexpensive as possible.”

The $450 Senior and Master entry fee for LO206 is nearly $500 less than the comparable IAME classes, and still includes Friday practice, Saturday and Sunday races, and one set of Evinco race tires.

Superkarts! USA Confirms Details For 2nd Annual SKUSA Winter Series Including Colossal $80,000 Prize Package
Wednesday, 28 November 2018 23:29

Superkarts! USA today confirmed long awaited details for their second annual SKUSA Winter Series. The action kicks off the second weekend of 2019 — January 11-13, at AMR Homestead Miami Motorplex presented by MG Tires. The four-race championship will not only begin there, but in a twist of exciting news… end there as well.

“After weighing our options for venues, we were hard pressed finding a better location than Miami,” explained SKUSA’s Tom Kutscher. “The destination is second to none and a great deal of our contingent are fond of the surrounding locations.”

The twist however, is that the second event slated for February 8-10 will see the circuit ran in clockwise configuration (e.g. backwards) providing a different driving experience for Winter Series racers. “Homestead is a circuit with tremendous history,” added Kutscher. “Some of the biggest championship years in Florida have come on the heels of multiple events having been run there. The demand for racing in Homestead is by far the greatest of all the tracks in the area.”
