The Ocala Gran Prix circuit played host to the final round of the Superkarts! USA Winter Series over the weekend and crowned the program’s inaugural champion following Sunday’s action on the 0.6-mile, eight-turn circuit in Florida. The new Kart Republic operation earned its first championship after debuting at last November’s SuperNationals, thanks to an impressive four-round combined performance from Lorenzo Travisanutto. The 18-year-old Italian topped the 34-kart X30 Senior category on Saturday, sweeping the day, and then added a third on Sunday to secure the class championship. Fellow Kart Republic driver Brandon Jarsocrak made his debut on the chassis this weekend for KartSport North America and completed the sweep of the mains for KR, winning on Sunday. Musgrave Racing Company’s Billy Musgrave (Aluminos) was the only S1 Pro Stock Honda driver to compete in both weekends, which automatically gave him the title, while Rory van der Steur (FA) topped the combined Stock Honda field on Sunday to win the day and the class championship in the S2 Semi-Pro Stock Honda category. The X30 Junior battle was hard-fought, bordering on reckless at times, and when the dust had settled, Team Montoya’s Sebastian Montoya (TonyK art) used a pair of podium finishes to win the title. Superkarts! USA launched the Winter Series last month in Homestead, Florida with over 200 drivers in attendance. The four-round championship chase concludes this weekend as the program heads north to the Ocala Gran Prix in central Florida. The numbers may be a bit lower than last month, however, the X30 Junior category was sold out prior to arriving in Ocala, showing the continued growth of the IAME program under the SKUSA banner.

The series heads to the unique Ocala Gran Prix facility in Ocala, Florida. The circuit is among the smallest on the national level, just 6/10 of a mile with eight distinct corners. Facility owner Jorge Arellano has been a big player in North American karting industry, bringing a number of high-profile events to the Ocala circuit. The local program at Ocala and the OGP race team have helped to produce some of the top karters in the last decade. While the circuit may be smaller, the action will be intense throughout the weekend.

eKartingNews.com is going to be Trackside for the finale weekend of the SKUSA Winter Series. EKN’s own Rob Howden will be on the mic as the longtime SKUSA announcer, with all the sessions on Saturday and Sunday to be broadcasted at www.ekartingnews.com/live – presented by CRG Nordam, Nitro Kart and TB Kart USA. Be sure to follow the EKN Social Media channels for images, videos and much more throughout the entire weekend in Ocala. Read full story on eKartingNews.com.

Superkarts! Usa Adds Micro Swift Prize Package To Skusa Winter Series Prize Pool
Tuesday, 30 January 2018 12:01

Superkarts! USA today confirmed a championship prize package for the 2018 SKUSA Winter Series and the IAME Micro Swift Category. The prizes are in addition to an unprecedented $75,000 prize pool, bringing the inaugural season total even higher.

"We know one of the most coveted prizes of the Winter Series is the trip to the IAME International Final in France," remarked SKUSA principal Tom Kutscher. Unfortunately, they just don't run Micro Swift at that race and it's left us perplexed on how to come up with something truly special for our youngest competitors."

Superkarts! USA launched the initial Florida Winter Tour in December of 1998, simply because Don Janowski and his son Joe didn’t want to stop racing in October when it got cold in the Midwest. The Florida gearbox program quickly gained supporters, which fueled momentum, and over the next handful of years, the program became the unofficial off-season racing series, run by Bill Wright. Fast forward a dozen years, and the Superkarts! USA brand made its return to the Sunshine State this past weekend, and it was a very successful homecoming at that. A packed paddock featured 220 entries, highlighted by full fields in Mini Swift, X30 Junior and X30 Senior. The racing was a little chaotic on Saturday, but things improved drastically on Sunday. On track, Dante Yu and Lorenzo Travisanutto topped the X30 Senior races, while Daniel Formal and Bill Musgrave split the S1 wins. With this event, the 2018 SKUSA competition season is underway.

EKN Trackside: 2018 SKUSA Winter Series – AMR Motorplex Preview
Saturday, 13 January 2018 09:41

A new era begins this weekend as Superkarts! USA launches its new Winter Series. The two-weekend program will serve as the unofficial ‘spring training’ for the 2018 SKUSA Pro Tour and takes the organization back to Florida where its roots were formed back in the late 1990s. The opening event this weekend has brought competitors to the AMR Homestead-Miami Motorplex Presented by MG Tires, and almost 200 entries pre-registered for the race.

The AMR facility has been part of assorted winter series programs for the last two decades and, in 2017, the track became part of the Vantage Karting Group Entertainment – a company owned by Justin Marks and Eric Jones. Since taking over the facility this summer, VKG Entertainment has given the 7/10-mile course a new look, while also adding a 3/10-mile rental kart circuit to the south of the main layout. The facility’s location in South Florida provides constant action on the tracks, and the lead up to this weekend has been no different with many of the SKUSA Winter Series competitors taking to the circuit over the last month to prepare for the opener.
