Granja Viana 500
Thursday, 29 November 2007 17:00

The MG Tires / SKUSA national race team is alive and kicking at the annual Granja Viana endurance race, taking place this weekend in beautiful Sao Paulo, Brazil. Drivers Connor DePhillippi, Alex Speed, Brian Eady, and Fritz Leesmann are proudly representing the United States and American karting in prestigious fashion.

DePhillippi and Eady earned a ride to the event as part of their prize package from the recent SuperNationals race in Nevada. Judging by their smiles so far, it was an award unlike any other. The event format is a grueling 500 mile endurance race aboard specially prepared 4 stroke Honda engines. The race is an annual tradition in Brazil and features numerous celebrity drivers, including Formula 1 notables Rubens Barrichello, Felipe Massa and IRL standout Tony Kanaan.

In early timed sessions Team MG Tires / SKUSA is in the hunt - mere hundredths off the fastest time. The young Americans will be vying for the coveted pole position in today’s qualifying session, with the role of securing the top spot in the hands of the ever capable Connor DePhillippi. The race kicks off at midnight Saturday morning and 70 plus karts will be battling for the win. With a little luck from the racing gods, team MG Tires / SKUSA will be fighting for the top step on the podium.
