Superkarts! USA Announces 2012 ProKart Challenge Schedule
Tuesday, 06 December 2011 11:32
Fresh off its record-breaking SuperNationals in Las Vegas, Superkarts! USA is now gearing toward the 2012 season with full steam. Among the first tasks to be completed is finalizing the schedule for the regional programs that SKUSA sanctions throughout the country. With the Pro Tour dates now set, SKUSA is happy to announce the rejoining of the two California regional programs back into one schedule -- the 2012 ProKart Challenge series.

After four years of offering separate regional programs for the state of California, Superkarts! USA officials have elected to slim down the number of races for the upcoming season and offer just one regional for the ‘Golden State.’ The ProKart Challenge series began in 2005 as an eight-race program, featuring many of the same tracks as those on the schedule for 2012. The program was split into two separate schedules in 2008 when Superkarts! USA created a Northern California-based series. After four seasons, the two programs will reunite into one for the upcoming year.

“We always need to keep with the pulse of the karting community and what works best for our organization,” Superkarts! USA President Tom Kutscher shared, commenting on the changes for the 2012 season. “The past four seasons have been great with two separate California regional programs; however, our company and the sport have come to a point where two separate series just does not work. Our racers are loyal, and we expect the two programs to come together nicely as they have at our annual North vs. South shootouts. If the racing at those events is the benchmark, the six races in 2012 will be very exciting.”

The six-race schedule works around the Pro Tour dates, offering nine race weekends from February to November when including the three national stops. First for 2012 for the ProKart Challenge will be the Buttonwillow Raceway Park on February 10-11. Willow Springs International Raceway in Rosamond, CA on March 23-24 will host round two of the series. April will be the off-month, with the Pro Tour SpringNationals in Arizona set for the 20-22 weekend. The PKC series returns to action on May 18-19 with its return to Adams Motorsports Park in Riverside, CA. Round Four takes the program back to Buttonwillow on June 22-23. July is the next off-month as teams prepare for the Pro Tour SummerNationals, with action returning on August 17-18 as the series travels south to San Diego and Qualcomm Stadium. The sixth and final stop will be the first street race to be included as a points race for the regional program. The Streets of Lancaster Grand Prix was a massively successful race last fall and will move to the September 14-16 weekend as the series finale for the 2012 season.

Aside from the bragging rights and prizes awarded to the champions at the regional level, all Superkarts! USA regional champions -- including the ProKart Challenge program -- will earn a guaranteed starting spot in the main event at the prestigious SKUSA SuperNationals XVI in Las Vegas. Additional benefits from running the full program will be offered to those racers who do not score a championship but do compete in all six events, as they will receive preferred entry to the SuperNationals in the organization’s new entry procedure for the 2012 event in November.

“The six locations selected work best for our schedule and our racers,” continued Kutscher. “Going to Buttonwillow twice will help our Northern competitors, and the tracks are those at which everyone enjoys competing. Now with our affiliation with the Streets of Lancaster Grand Prix, I can’t think of a better way to end the year than on this great street circuit. As we have for the last few years, the champions of our ProKart Challenge will receive a guaranteed starting position for the SuperNationals, something that money literally can’t buy. We will be releasing more information regarding our new SuperNationals entry process in the near future, but we want to make sure that those who support the Pro Tour, ProKart Challenge and other SKUSA programs around the country will be sure to have the first chance at securing their entry spot. The changes are only for the better, as we continue to improve what we offer at Superkarts! USA.”

Other prizes and information regarding the 2012 ProKart Challenge series will be published at the Superkarts! USA website - http://www.superkartsusa.com
