The 2017 championship chase in X30 Senior went down to the wire, and was the closets finish in SKUSA Pro Tour history for the category. Looking at the returning drivers and contenders for 2018, it could be just as competitive for the SKUSA crown. The king on the throne for the past two seasons as been Florida driver Ryan Norberg. A privateer in 2016 that won three main events used consistent finishes last year to remain as the champion in 2017, helping him to also earn the EKN Driver of the Year honor. The SKUSA #1 still remains on the side of his Birel ART machine into the new season, still holding the bulls-eye as the driver to beat.
SKUSA #2 and #3 Jake Craig and Brandon Jarsocrak are returning. Craig (Tony Kart), the 2014 champion, came four points short of a second title, losing out to Norberg. The California driver returns having shown well as the eKartingNews.com representative at the Mazda Road to Indy Scholarship Shootout. Jarsocrak is entering a new era. Still with KartSport North America, the ‘Shillington Slingshot’ has moved over to the Kart Republic brand. The field in the S1 Pro Stock Honda category is only at 14 drivers, but year after year the competition level seems to increase. This season is a great mix of returning stars and graduating S2 drivers. Of course, the SKUSA #1 plate is the ultimate goal. The bulls-eye is 2017 SKUSA Pro Tour champion Jake French (Sodikart). The Texan has a string of podium finishes dating back to 2016 SummerNationals, helping him to earn the title in 2017. The 2017 eKartingNews.com Driver of the Year scored his first Pro Tour victory at the WinterNationals last year, gearing to begin the title defense with another victory or two. Chasing him was Billy Musgrave. The Aluminos driver ended 2017 on a high note, winning at the SuperNationals. With the sport in a continuing phase of evolution, Superkarts! USA has its eye focused on providing as much stability as possible for its customers. SKUSA’s move to the IAME product line for the single-speed classes have done just that, solidifying that segment of their program. Heading into the 2018 season, SKUSA would like to confirm that all five IAME categories will be back on the Pro Tour. For the coming season, they will be joined for the ninth straight year by the Stock Honda as the gearbox engine of choice. The primary adjustment will be a move to a pair of combined Stock Honda classes for the Pro Tour – Pro Shifter and Master Shifter – matching the approach that will be used in the inaugural SKUSA Winter Series in January and February. For 2018, S1 Pro and S2 Semi-Pro will be combined in favor of a single Pro Shifter class. S4 Master and S4 Super Master will race together as Master Shifter, but will be scored separately and will celebrate post-race with their own podium presentations.

The 2017 Superkarts! USA Pro Tour completed in August with the third and final event of the championship series wrapping up in New Castle, Indiana. The new format for the 2017 SKUSA Pro Tour welcomed a change in the championship chase, featuring three events and six rounds of competition, deciding who would be crowned the title winners in the nine categories. Those drivers who finished in the top-tier of their respective categories and others who found success on the year are able to enjoy a portion of the more than $100,000 prize package for the 2017 season.

The Superkarts! USA Pro Tour wrapped up a wild run to their eighth season with this weekend’s SummerNationals at the New Castle Motorsports Park. DKC’s Jake French (Sodi Kart) eliminated all doubt that he is the best shifter kart driver in the country when he completed his sweep of the weekend, after international professional Gary Carlton (Formula K) suffered a mechanical DNF. KartSport North America’s Brandon Jarsocrak (Praga) out-gunned Saturday winner Braden Eves (Vemme) for the win in X30 Senior.
Today marked the most dramatic finish to a SKUSA Pro Tour X30 Senior championship chase. It boiled down to defending champion Ryan Norberg (PSL / Birel ART) and 2014 title winner Jake Craig (RPM / Tony Kart). Both were vying to be the first repeat champion in series history, however, both would have to do it from the back of the field. Both were among the lead pack in the Prefinal. Norberg was turned around in the I-70 corner after contact with Craig. That dropped the defending champ down the order while Craig was involved in contact shortly after with Marjin Kremers (PSL / Birel ART). Kremers was removed from the remainder of the event for the questionable contact, as Craig placed 25th and Norberg 38th. Up front, Brandon Jarsocrak (KSNA / Praga) bounced back from his issues Saturday to qualify first and earn the victory in the Prefinal. Read the full story on eKartingNews.com
