California ProKart Challenge Begins Second Half of Season at Buttonwillow
Thursday, 14 June 2012 08:41
The California ProKart Challenge has reached the halfway point of the 2012 season, as it readies for the fourth round of the six-race championship series. Returning to where it all began this year, competitors will again take on the Buttonwillow Raceway Park kart track in Buttonwillow, California, where the $65,000 prize package for this season is still up for grabs. The facility will be the same, but the circuit will be changed slightly from the opening weekend back in February. The conditions will be much warmer, with sunshine expected for the entire weekend, and the 7/10-mile course will be a tad quicker with the removal of the kink, making the longest straightaway nearly 1000 feet. Racers and their machines will have to be at peak performance the entire weekend as the championship fights heat up for the second half of the season.

Familiar faces are at the top of the championship standings in the headline categories. The Leading Edge Motorsports TaG Senior division has #3 SKUSA plate holder Matt Johnson leading the title chase, thanks to his opening two feature wins on the season. Defending series champion Travis Lowe has been quick as of late, standing on the second step of the podium in the last two weekends to move into the second place, just 151 points back of Johnson. Round three winner Devin Lindsey is now in third, but will need another strong weekend to close the gap currently held by the top two. The S1 Pro Stock Moto category, sponsored by Extreme Karting, has seen three different winners in the first three events. Round two winner Jimmy McNeil currently holds the top spot in the standings over rookie Nicky Freytag, who earned his first S1 victory at Adams. Round one winner Brad Dunford sits third ahead of former series champ Clinton Schoombee, as the top four are separated by just 84 points.

Superkarts! USA SuperNationals XVI Class Lineup, Hotel Information Released
Friday, 01 June 2012 09:48
In just over five months, the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino will once again become the center of the karting universe when the 16th annual Superkarts! USA SuperNationals rocks Las Vegas on November 14-18. The Rio’s expansive Masquerade parking lot located alongside the busy I-15 highway will play host to over 500 drivers from around the world, as they all do battle for SuperNationals glory on the event’s challenging temporary circuit. Each driver will be looking to etch his or her name in karting history. The 2011 edition of the premier SKUSA event attracted a record number of drivers to the race, and a similar entry list is expected for this year’s five-day karting festival. Planning is well underway, and the SKUSA staff is now thrilled to announce the categories that will compete at the SuperNationals XVI, as well as the unbeatable deal they have arranged for drivers, teams and spectators for on-site stay at the Rio Hotel.

“When deciding on the classes that we would be running this year, we believed that it was important for us to focus on our core customers, those drivers on our Pro Tour and running in our regional programs,” commented Tom Kutscher, Superkarts! USA President. “Our sport and our class structure are both evolving, and we’re seeing growth in different areas. Our approach is to provide opportunities for all of our customers, maximizing track time while still shortening the days, if possible. Last year’s extended daily schedules were tough on everyone.”

New Faces On Top of Podium at California ProKart Challenge Event in Riverside
Thursday, 24 May 2012 10:57
The 2012 California ProKart Challenge season reached the halfway point following this weekend’s round three proceedings at the Adams Motorsports Park. The historic 7/10-mile course hosted the Superkarts! USA regional for the second straight year, with 10 categories battling around the challenging circuit and more than half witnessed first time winners. More than 80 drivers converged in Riverside, CA with the championship chases heating up, all vying for a part of the over $65,000 prize package up for grabs this season. Adding their names to the list of contenders in the headline categories are Nicky Freytag and Devin Lindsey, winners of the main events in S1 and TaG Senior.

Qualifying was a tight affair for the Extreme Karting-sponsored S1 Pro Stock Moto division, as the top three drivers came in within six-hundredths of a second. Ryon Beachner earned the pole position honor with his fast lap of 42.039 seconds. S1 rookies Freytag and Josh Lane, making his first California PKC start, clocked in second and third. Beachner went wire-to-wire in both 10-lap heat races with Freytag trailing. Lane had issues in heat one, allowing point leader Jimmy McNeil to advance to third in both moto races. As he did for the entire day, Beachner led the way in the main event early – until Freytag worked around to take over the point on lap three. From there, Freytag was able to stretch out to a sizable lead with the fast laps of the race. The Arizona driver would earn his first S1 victory, crossing the line 1.1 seconds ahead of Beachner. McNeil would cap off the podium with a solid point day, finishing in front of defending champion Brad Dunford and Clinton Schoombee, second in points entering the weekend.

California Pro Kart Challenge Officially Announces Track Location Change for Round 5 from Qualcomm/San Diego to Santa Maria Aug 17-18
Thursday, 24 May 2012 08:12
In order to take advantage of the re-organization and re-opening of a very popular race track, to best accommodate the PKC racers that spread from Southern California to Northern California, and to enjoy the best possible weather that this ocean-close race venue has to offer in the summertime, Pro Kart Challenge CA has decided to move Round 5 of the 2012 championship series to the Santa Maria kart track at the airport. A special thanks goes out to the SMKA board members who helped accommodate our change, and especially to the San Diego Karting Association, who will hopefully welcome us back next time!

Additional information regarding this event will be posted shortly, including the host hotel, pit spot reservation specifics, and other race event details. Stay tuned, and please help us spread the word!
