Fresh off the heels of announcing the shifter kart class expansion to include KZ engines, SKUSA is also pleased to unveil their 2020 prize structure for this year’s Pro Tour. In a move consistent with giving back to the customer, SKUSA is excited to confirm the largest prize package to date for the upcoming national championship.
“We spent a great deal of time speaking to teams and drivers in the paddock,” explained SKUSA president Tom Kutscher. “We asked a lot of competitors what prizes get them most excited, and to no surprise — cash is king. SKUSA will be taking it to the next level in 2020, and we couldn’t be more excited to once again be giving back to our racers.”
Even More Pro Class Weekend Prize Money
Prize money will be increased in Pro Shifter, X30 Senior, and even the X30 Junior class at the Winter, Spring and SummerNationals. SKUSA will be awarding a staggering $10,000* per class to the top five drivers in the overall point standings, cumulatively, for each weekend $5000 per round to the top five drivers.

The California ProKart Challenge is preparing for a return to the track after two months off following the 2019 opening event at Buttonwillow. The flagship regional program for Superkarts! USA returns to the site of the 2019 SKUSA Pro Tour WinterNationals with a unique and first ever dual-round weekend, as Rounds Two and Three will be contested on the June 7-9 weekend at the CalSpeed Karting facility. Competitors will compete in a similar format to the Pro Tour, with optional practice on Friday, and then two separate race days on Saturday and Sunday. The track layout will be different from the March weekend, with competitors set to battle around the ‘Tecnico’ circuit. The weather is forecasted to be perfect racing weather, and the turnout is expected to be the biggest of the season.
The 2019 California ProKart Challenge kicked off its season at Buttonwillow Raceway Park on March 30-31. A number of drivers swept the action for the opening round, including reigning SKUSA SuperNationals winner Billy Musgrave. The five-time California PKC champion went unchallenged in the Croc Promotion USA/Mad Old Nut Pro Shifter category. Add in Micah Hendricks in the Musgrave Racing Company Pro Shifter 2 division, John Crow in the Alpinestars G1 Gladiator class, Nick George in S4 Master Stock Moto, Brett Harrelson in Bell Helmets S4 Super Master Stock Moto, Stuart Hayner in AiM Sports X30 Super Master, and defending IAME USA West Micro Swift champion Graham Trammell. All seven will attempt to continue their streak in the P1 position through the double race weekend in Fontana.

The 2019 California ProKart Challenge began its season with the opening round held at the Buttonwillow Raceway Park in Buttonwillow, California under welcome sunny skies. The March 30-31 event was the first of the 15-year celebration for the Superkarts! USA regional program, and marked a new change in format that also seemed to be a big hit with both new and seasoned California PKC racers. The action was held on Saturday-Sunday and featured the new Qualifying-Prefinal-Final structure. Portions of the $120,000, the largest prize package in series history, were handed out on the weekend as 120 competitors contested the first of six rounds toward the championships in the 16 categories.

The 10th annual Superkarts! USA SummerNationals are now an exciting chapter in the organization’s history, and the final round of the 2019 Pro Tour was waged on Sunday at New Castle Motorsports Park. The event was treated with almost perfect mid-August Indiana weather and the new track configuration helped to provide the stage for some tremendous racing and, of course, the crowning of SKUSA’s newest national champions. Rolison Performance Group’s Ryan Norberg made history, securing his fourth straight championship in the X30 Senior category, truly an unparalleled accomplishment in the 25-plus years of SKUSA competition. Norberg finished second to Mike Doty Racing’s Brandon Jarsocrak in an wild finish that had to be seen to be believed, but Ryan’s recovery from a lacklustre WinterNationals was the stuff of legend. In the Pro Shifter class, we witnessed the newest chapter in the emergence of Kyle Wick as the top driver in the sport, as the CRG Nordam pilot completed a strong and consistent season to secure the national championship and the national #1 plate for 2020. The Croc Promotion USA duo of Jake French and Billy Musgrave dominated the weekend with a pair of 1-2 finishes, with French re-establishing himself as a true shifterkart star, but it was Wick’s run of six consistent finishes that earned him a well-deserved title. With the 2020 incarnations of the SKUSA ProTour and ProKart Challenge just weeks away, Superkarts! USA is excited to confirm the expansion of their shifter kart classes to now include the popular KZ engine format. The move comes after careful deliberation between both factions of IAME USA, and valuable input from teams throughout the SKUSA paddock.
“We feel we have a shifter kart engine that’s second to none,” explained SKUSA’s principal Tom Kutscher. “That said, we would be lying if we said it’s been a perfect rollout. Various issues hindered the format at the very beginning, including an unfortunate one with the Tillotson carburetor. To their credit, they have worked tremendously hard alongside us to rectify the issues and we still consider them a valuable partner in the program. In recent months, the 175SSE has been rock solid and drivers continue to praise its durability and longevity. On the event side however, we are still a promotion company. Our customers’ input matters the most and we strive to be as inclusive as we can.”
