The ‘Spring Training’ program begins its fourth season with the opening two rounds at the AMR Homestead-Miami Motorplex presented by MG Tires. Racers and teams will use this weekend to begin the process of setting up their 2021 programs, with those moving to new homes and chassis brands, others graduating up or moving to another category for the new season. All of that begins with the opening weekend of the SKUSA Winter Series around the 7/10-mile AMR circuit in the clockwise direction, welcoming over 200 entries in the nine categories.

The racing season is underway for the California ProKart Challenge with a quick turnaround to host the second event of the 2022 season. On the May 14-15 weekend, the Superkarts! USA regional series returns to the Buttonwillow Raceway Park, site of the opening round last month. The Buttonwillow, California facility will welcome back the racers, this time taking to the 7/10-mile circuit in the clockwise direction. Portions of the $70,000 prize package for the season were handed out last month at the opener, with more to be presented at the popular podium ceremony following the Round Two action as drivers push forward in their championship chases.

Frankie Mossman came away with the Round One victory in the HRT Driver Development KA100 Senior division, but it is Ethan Lampe that leads the championship after one race. Lampe was top qualifier and won the Prefinal, only to finish second to Mossman. Add in the fast lap bonus and Lampe holds a 20-point advantage going into Round Two over Mossman. Third-place finisher Jackson Menchu is third, 60 points out of first. It was a near perfect score for William Rasmussen in the Nash Motorsportz KA100 Junior class. Sweeping the action, he only missed out on the fast lap bonus to leave Round One with a 40-point gap over fast time driver and runner-up Alex Mercado – with third-place finisher Keagan Kaminski sitting third, back by only 10 points more. It was a perfect score for Brian Phillipsen in Round One of the Mike Manning Karting KA100 Master class. Phillipsen holds a 50-point lead over Tim Meyer, with Ronnie Swaim in third going into the second event.

The Superkarts! USA SuperNationals 25 is officially underway outside the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Following a full day of practice on Wednesday, the over 570 entries in 10 categories completed the lead up with the final two rounds of testing before competitors went all in for qualifying. The day was full of sunshine and slightly warmer feel then on Wednesday with less of a wind. That was until the sun set behind the Rio building and the lights on the Vegas strip began to shine that temperature continued to drop with the final laps of qualifying contested. The two headline categories in the afternoon group, along with six of the classes were led by international drivers in the timed qualifying sessions, with Pedro Hiltbrand and Evan Giltaire earning the B.R.M Chronographes timepieces in Pro Shifter and X30 Senior.

The first category to hit the track was the KA100 Junior division by Think60.org. The fifth and final lap of the session was the money circuit with nearly every driver in the 67-kart field posting their quick time on the last lap. Steven Miller (CDR / Alonso Kart) was able to edge out Max Garica (MPG / Kart Republic) by four thousandths of a second. Christian Cameron (AKR / Tony Kart) and Max Taylor (RPG / Kosmic) were all within 56 thousandths of Miller’s time. Ernesto Rivera (RPG / Kosmic) rounded out the fast five with SKUSA Pro Tour champion Jesus Vasquez Jr. (Nash / EOS) back in 10th. Read full story on eKartingNews.com
