EKN Exclusive: Superkarts! USA SuperNationals 27 – Preview Series – KA100 Senior

SKUSA SuperNationals 27 is the sixth edition for KA100 Senior at the event, which made its debut in 2018. The class quickly expanded to reach a massive total entry of 93 in 2021. This year’s field surpasses that benchmark by one with 94 pre-registered drivers. The overall event record is 95 for TaG Senior in 2008 as this year’s KA100 Senior total matches the 2017 total for X30 Senior for second largest field ever at the SuperNationals. Defending KA100 Senior champion Ernesto Rivera has been racing cars in Europe throughout the 2024 season and, as a new Red Bull Junior driver, and will not return to the SuperNationals this year.

Six of the top-10 from last year are returning, including three podium finishers. The top returning driver from 2023 is also one of four former SuperNationals winners in the field. Pauly Massimino (BJR/MDR) won the category in 2019 and finished third a year ago. Massimino won in United States Pro Kart Series competition and was the IAME USA Grand National Championship Shootout in KA after spending much of the season focused on X30 and OK-N. The North Carolina driver won the Stars Championship Series title in OK-N. Fellow SuperNationals winner Brandon Lemke (BJR/MDR) has been on the podium in his last three starts. He was the provisional winner in 2019 before a pushback bumper penalty dropped him to fifth. Redemption was his in 2021 when he secured that elusive victory before finishing fourth last year. The 2024 California ProKart Challenge hosted the first event of the season on March 23-24 at Buttonwillow Raceway Park in central California. Weather was a key factor on the weekend in Buttonwillow with rain threatening the opening round action of the 2024 championship program. The staff, teams and competitors worked together to push through the event schedule to avoid heavy rain toward the end of the main events, nearly getting every race in before the precipitation began falling heavily.

EKN Trackside: 2023 Superkarts! USA Winter Series – AMR1 – Saturday Report

After an incredibly successful and historic 25th running of their SuperNationals, Superkarts! USA fired up the 2023 season at the AMR Homestead-Miami Motorplex Presented by MG Tires with the first round of their annual Winter Series. The two-weekend, four-round series kicked off in style with over 240 entries on the books and a perfect day of weather, albeit much cooler than is expected for Florida in January. The opening event on the 12-turn / 0.7-mile circuit was run in the counter-clockwise direction, which is referred to by the best in the paddock as the rougher of the two layouts. Despite all the challenges, Kart Republic factory driver Joe Turney scored a big win in the X30 Senior class, while Alan Isambard (ANSA Motorsports / Formula K) walked to the victory in Pro Shifter.

SKUSA and IAME USA Outline Release for Long Awaited SKUSA ‘SSE’ Spec 175cc Shifter Engine

Superkarts! USA (SKUSA), in conjunction with IAME USA and IAME S.P.A., are excited to announce details of the long awaited release of the SKUSA shifter engine (SSE). The powerplant has been in development for several months with multiple iterations, developments, and improvements along the way. Both IAME and SKUSA couldn’t be more excited for the next evolution of the shifter platform in Superkarts! USA competition.

“It’s no secret, I’m a gearbox guy at heart,” explained SKUSA president Tom Kutscher. “As far back as the days when I drove in SKUSA myself, I’ve always enjoyed the added challenge of shifting gears. That said, finding the appropriate successor to the current engine format was something I took great care to consider and make perfect.”

EKN Trackside: 2023 Superkarts! USA Pro Tour SpringNationals – Sunday Report

While the potential for rain was in the forecast throughout the weekend at the Utah Motorsports Campus for this year’s Superkarts! USA Pro Tour SpringNationals, the wet stuff didn’t arrive until the second half of the KA100 Senior main event on Sunday, and even then, not in enough quantity to bring the race to a halt. After a short lightning break as the small storm cell passed through, the Mini Swift drivers took to a damp track, and the decision to go with slicks or wets made things intriguing. More on that later. Overall, the day’s racing was ultra-aggressive once again, and even the drivers commented on the poor racecraft in post-race interviews. Despite this aggression, or maybe because of it, the racing in the headline X30 Senior and Pro Shifter categories was edge-of-your-seat type of stuff.

In the Pro Shifter class, GFC Karting’s Jacob Gulick (GFC) backed up his breakout win on Saturday to score another triumph over the stacked field of gearbox racers, having to come back from a tough start that dropped him to third. The X30 Senior race was as wild as expected, and with six drivers in the hunt, J3 Competition’s Oliver Hodgson (CompKart) emerged from the inferno to score his first major national SKUSA victory in the United States. The day also saw new winners, as eight categories battled for wins in Round Four of the SKUSA Pro Tour.
