EKN Trackside: SKUSA Pro Tour MothersĀ® SummerNationals - Saturday Report
Written by eKartingNews.com
Sunday, 17 July 2011 00:00
The first day of action went into the books for Superkarts! USA Pro Tour Mothers® SummerNationals. The Grand Junction Motor Speedway in Colorado was the back drop for what was another exciting day of racing in the eight categories on hand. The weather challenged the competitors all day long, beginning with cloudy skies early on before the weather cranked up throughout the day while the occasional gust of wind dusted the track surface and tested the tents throughout the paddock. While each category had its own hero of the day, NorCal’s Brett Felkins left the day extending his point lead in the TaG Senior Pro Tour standings with win number two of the season as SoCal’s Brad Dunford earned his first national victory in S1 Pro Stock Moto.

TaG Senior
The headline class for day one of action was the TaG Senior division as they began their day with an open pit 12-minute session for qualifying. British native and recent IndyCar Series signee Martin Plowman (Zanardi/Leopard) set the early mark in his first three laps, on the border to break the 53-second mark. Lap three was the best Plowman could do during his first stint, posting a 54.107-lap with 14-year old Dakota Dickerson (Arrow/Rotax) back by just 0.048-seconds on his fourth lap. They would all drop down the order when veteran Eric Jones (Arrow/Rotax) posted his fifth lap of the session, just three-thousandths of a second quicker than Plowman’s time. Late in the session, point leader Brett Felkins (Intrepid/Leopard) made a charge into the top three, just 15-thousandths off Jones’ mark. Jones rejoined the track with less than two minutes in the session after a carburetion change on his KartSport North American Rotax powerplant but pulled off before completing a timed lap. His best time stood through to the checkered flag with Plowman second, Felkins third and Dickerson fourth - all separated by just 51-thousandths of a second. Matt Johnson (Tony Kart/Vortex) finished off the fast-five, two-tenths off the best lap.

EKN Trackside: SKUSA Pro Tour MothersĀ® SummerNationals - Preview
Written by eKartingNews.com

The second event of the Superkarts! USA Pro Tour takes place this weekend in Grand Junction, Colorado with the sophomore edition of the Mothers® SummerNationals. The 9/10-mile circuit of Grand Junction Motor Speedway will host the event, providing a stunning backdrop and racecourse for three days of exciting action to complete Rounds 3 and 4 of the five-race championship.

The Honda Racing/HPD SpringNationals kicked off the Pro Tour in late April/early May at the Musselman Honda Circuit in Tucson, Arizona. Aside from the occasional wind/dust storm, the weekend was a triumph with 164 drivers contesting eight categories, an increase of 70% from the inaugural event in 2010. With 130 drivers entered prior to arriving in Grand Junction for the Mothers® SummerNationals, the event could see an increase of more than 50% from last year’s event in Wisconsin.

The Grand Junction Motor Speedway is among the best karting circuit designs in the United States. At just under 1-mile, the 32’ wide course offers a variety of fast straightaways, technical corners and elevation changes. A view of a hot lap from TaG Senior driver Martin Plowman during testing can be viewed HERE

The SKUSA Pro Tour, in just its second year, is gaining a lot of attention thanks to its straight-forward format of Stock Moto shifterkarts and tiered TaG classes. The internal ladder system in Stock Moto - S1, S2, S4, S5 - and through the TaG divisions - Senior, Master, Junior, Cadet - allows competitors to begin their karting career with the organization at any level and graduate up the ranks based on age and experience. The list of drivers taking part in the program continues to grow and, in accordance, the prestige of a Pro Tour championship is increasing as the participation numbers and level of competition increases.

The eight entry lists for this weekend’s Mothers® SummerNationals are loaded with talent, ready to tackle the Grand Junction facility and continue their chase to Pro Tour championship glory.  Read the FULL story at eKartingNews.com

Superkarts! USA Readies for MothersĀ® SummerNationals
Friday, 08 July 2011 08:57
The much-anticipated second round of the 2011 Superkarts! USA Pro Tour is now just one week away as the Mothers® SummerNationals will be held at the Grand Junction Motor Speedway on July 15-17. A projected list of 150 racers will compete for three days in two full rounds of racing, which will count toward the season championship that began just two months ago in Arizona at the Honda Racing/HPD SpringNationals. Eight categories will continue their attack on the Pro Tour championship, with the headline categories of TaG Senior and S1 Pro Stock Moto vying for a portion of the $3,500 purse.

“I can’t believe the Mothers® SummerNationals is already here,” commented Superkarts! USA President Tom Kutscher. “It seems like yesterday we were setting up in Tucson for what was an exciting weekend to kick off the 2011 SKUSA Pro Tour. I’m happy to be returning to Grand Junction after being there to start our rejuvenated SKUSA Mountain Region two weeks ago. Our Pro Tour racers are going to love this place. Those drivers who still have not registered have until this Sunday, July 10 at midnight to sign up and qualify for the pre-entry pricing. Anyone who is on the fence needs to just commit to it. You won’t be disappointed with what we at SKUSA, the competitors, and the track in Grand Junction have to offer.”
