Speed and Giebler Score During SummerNationals Opening Day
Sunday, 18 July 2010 01:00
With perfect weather blanketing an incredible facility, the Superkarts! USA SummerNationals enjoyed great head-to-head racing and some amazing finishes in the opening day of action at USA International Raceway in Shawano, WI. In the feature category of the day – TaG Senior – veteran Phil Giebler emerged for a huge battle to take the win, while in the S1 Pro Stock Moto class, Alex Speed made the most of his return to SKUSA competition with a dominant victory over a star-studded field.

Saturday’s race schedule was capped by an incredible battle in the TaG Senior class, as Pro Tour point leader Phil Giebler (FA Kart) positioned himself throughout the day for the shot at another win. That said, National Kart Supply’s Mark Vielgut (Corsa) dropped the gauntlet early as he grabbed the pole position in qualifying. The combination of the asphalt construction and the specific cornering requirements of the track have made it very apparent the spec MG tires have a 1-2 lap sweet spot during qualifying, and the drivers have adjusted their strategies to address this unique situation. Vielgut was strong out of the box during the timed session, but in contrast to the tire expectations, he would take three laps to hit his mark, posting a 1:13.048 that would give him the pole for the first of two heat races. California driver Adrian Starrantino (CRG) would sit second after the timed run, coming in ahead of Benny Moon (Kosmic), who traveled up to Shawano with good friend AJ Allmendinger. Moon is driving one of Allmendinger’s TaG karts, and has been very impressive. Giebler was fourth, right ahead of veteran Jamie Sieracki (Merlin).

SKUSA SummerNationals Line Up Continues to Develop
Sunday, 04 July 2010 09:58
The first annual Superkarts! USA SummerNationals is promising to provide an early look at the on-track battles that the organization will likely see at its SuperNationals in November. The SKUSA staff will be heading for USA International Raceway in Shawano, WI in just about two weeks (June 16-18) and they are thrilled that the SummerNationals is expected to see a solid influx of local drivers for the race, pitting them up against the top drivers from their own ProKart Challenge, Mountain and the Central States regional programs. Add in the confirmed participation of NASCAR stars Jamie McMurray and AJ Allmendinger, and this race could be a solid pre-cursor of things to come in Las Vegas. SKUSA has an assortment of plans in place to make the SummerNationals an enjoyable experience for everyone who treks to Shawano to join in on the party.

“We’d love to officially welcome everyone to come and join us in Shawano for the SummerNationals,” offers Tom Kutscher, SKUSA President. “There’s a lot of crazy stuff going on in karting right now and as I am watching it unfold, I can remember exactly why we started our ProKart Challenge program in 2005. Karting should be about having fun, and that’s what we try to offer our customers when they come race with us. We had a great time at Infineon in April during the SpringNationals, and our approach to the SummerNats is no different. It’s going to be a fun summer vacation! We’ll do a little golfing, enjoy some BBQ with our karting friends, new and old, and we’ll get the chance to hit a great racetrack for some hardcore competition. That’s what the Pro Tour is all about!”

Central States Challenge Attacks Gateway International Raceway
Thursday, 01 July 2010 13:03
The second event of the season for the Superkarts! USA Central States Challenge took competitors from across the Midwest to the arch city - St. Louis - and the Gateway International Raceway for round three of the series. Contested over two days, racers competed on a temporary circuit inside the facility that incorporated the oval, road course and other paved areas. Drivers were given plenty of track time Saturday to get accustom to the long and challenging course before qualifying took place at the end of the day. Two heat races and the main event on Sunday decided the winners for the event.

Evan Walters was one of the winners to leave Gateway as he made his first series start and scored the feature victory in S2 Semi-Pro Stock Moto. The event began with Derek Crockett as the driver to beat following qualifying with a 52.275-lap time. Walters was second in the order with point leader Lukas Johnson third. Crockett however would be unable to compete in the races following an engine failure Sunday morning during warm-ups. Johnson took advantage as he would go on to win both heat races. In the final, Johnson and Walters went back and forth for the lead. Lap traffic would come into play and Walters took advantage. Taking the lead, he would hold on to the checkered flag to score the victory over Johnson and Kyle Gnau.
