The 2017 season is reaching the final stretch as the calendar readies for a turn over to October. That signals the return to the city streets for the California ProKart Challenge as the annual Streets of Lancaster Grand Prix hosts the final round of the 2017 championship. Since 2012, the city of Lancaster has welcomed the Superkarts! USA flagship program and its many racers from around the world to take part in what has now become the largest street race in western North America.
The southern California city of Lancaster hosts a three-day festival – September 29-October 1 – centered around the street race, providing charity and local celebrities a chance to get behind the wheel of concession karts on the very same circuit hundreds of karters will compete on. The California PKC competitors contest Round Six of the championship program over a special Saturday/Sunday format for the majority of the categories. New last year, the S1/S2 and X30 Senior main events were moved to Saturday night under the lights, contested between the charity and celebrity main events, in front of large crowds surrounding the BLVD district.

The 2017 championship chase in X30 Senior went down to the wire, and was the closets finish in SKUSA Pro Tour history for the category. Looking at the returning drivers and contenders for 2018, it could be just as competitive for the SKUSA crown. The king on the throne for the past two seasons as been Florida driver Ryan Norberg. A privateer in 2016 that won three main events used consistent finishes last year to remain as the champion in 2017, helping him to also earn the EKN Driver of the Year honor. The SKUSA #1 still remains on the side of his Birel ART machine into the new season, still holding the bulls-eye as the driver to beat.
SKUSA #2 and #3 Jake Craig and Brandon Jarsocrak are returning. Craig (Tony Kart), the 2014 champion, came four points short of a second title, losing out to Norberg. The California driver returns having shown well as the eKartingNews.com representative at the Mazda Road to Indy Scholarship Shootout. Jarsocrak is entering a new era. Still with KartSport North America, the ‘Shillington Slingshot’ has moved over to the Kart Republic brand. Jarsocrak won in his debut on the chassis at the SKUSA Winter Series, and the brand won the championship with Italian Lorenzo Travisanutto. Read full story on eKartingNews.com |

The field in the S1 Pro Stock Honda category is only at 14 drivers, but year after year the competition level seems to increase. This season is a great mix of returning stars and graduating S2 drivers. Of course, the SKUSA #1 plate is the ultimate goal. The bulls-eye is 2017 SKUSA Pro Tour champion Jake French (Sodikart). The Texan has a string of podium finishes dating back to 2016 SummerNationals, helping him to earn the title in 2017. The 2017 eKartingNews.com Driver of the Year scored his first Pro Tour victory at the WinterNationals last year, gearing to begin the title defense with another victory or two. Chasing him was Billy Musgrave. The Aluminos driver ended 2017 on a high note, winning at the SuperNationals. A race winner on the SKUSA Pro Tour for the past three years, Musgrave is aiming to finish the year with the SKUSA #1 plate. Read full story on eKartingNews.com |

The penultimate round of the California ProKart Challenge was completed over Labor Day weekend at the Monterey Bay Karters facility in Marina, California. Just off the Pacific Ocean coast, karters from all over the western half of the United States visited the northern California destination area to compete in the fifth round of the Superkarts! USA flagship regional championship. Categories for IAME and Honda divisions took on the course, sitting alongside the city’s airport. The event was important for many, trying to establish better ground in the title chases, while others took advantage to gain their first victories and podiums of 2017.
