Superkarts! USA SuperNationals XII Website Goes Live August 1
Wednesday, 30 July 2008 20:36
With the 2008 regional karting season winding down and November fast approaching, it won’t be long before the only thing on any karter’s mind is the pinnacle of North American karting: the Superkarts! USA SuperNationals. This year’s event marks the 12th running of the race and the return to the acclaimed Rio All-Suite Las Vegas Hotel & Casino. It’s a move that has generated so much buzz, not even SKUSA’s own staff could have anticipated it.

“To be completely honest, I figured the Rio Hotel news would be big – but I had no idea just how big,” explained a very excited Tom Kutscher. “It’s no secret, the economy isn’t exactly booming. All you read about is gas prices this, foreclosures that. The fact that we’ve been able to secure this fantastic location and pass tremendous savings along to the racer is just what the doctor ordered. Teams will literally be able to park their vehicles and be set for the entire week. No more treks to and from Sam Boyd – one can literally walk from their room to the pits in a matter of minutes.”

As a testament to just how popular this move really is, the specially-priced rooms for the Rio Hotel sold out in less than 72 hours… all 300 of them. In an environment where karting typically goes unnoticed by most laymen, even the staff at the Rio Hotel have been forced to recognize the buzz that the 12th annual SuperNationals has created. Upon learning of rooms already being sold out – without class or purse information even being announced – it came as a surprise to even SKUSA’s head office. “To say karting has taken over the Rio might just be literal this year,” commented an elated Kutscher. “It’s just amazing – to think that so many of the Rio hotel guests will be involved in some way with the sport of karting. It’s a really neat thing.”

With the event anticipation already nearing a fever pitch, SKUSA is officially opening up competition entries as of midnight August 1st, 2008. Pit space reservations will be available starting August 15th, requiring drivers to first get their entries firmly secured. The race entry opening will be concurrent with the official launch of the SuperNationals XII website: http://www.skusasupernats.com The site will contain information regarding classes, pricing, tentative event schedules, preliminary purses, and more. It will serve as a valuable resource for all interested parties, for both competitors and spectators alike.

Detailed observers will note the inclusion of two additional junior classes in this year’s SuperNationals – a move that came after careful consideration. “It’s no secret, the junior component has always been a double-edged sword,” Kutscher explains. “In some respects, with an event in Vegas, it’s nice to keep it geared towards the adults. But, there’s no denying that karting is such a young sport. Nowadays, you’re a veteran at 16 and many of the young talents are graduating to cars even sooner. It really leaves a void for them to compete in one of the world’s biggest kart races, and we wanted to address that.” After a trial run last year with the prototype S5 program, SKUSA is proud to announce the inclusion of HPV2 and TaG Jr. into the fold as well. Depending on the level of interest, SKUSA may eliminate either class, but initial demand has been extremely high.

With space and rooms at a premium, SKUSA will be forced to mandate entry caps on all classes. Judging by the hotel room sales, classes are expected to sell out quickly and competitors are encouraged to enter early to avoid being shutout. “Turning people away is not something we take lightly, but with this much demand, there will definitely be space issues. It’s a good problem to have as an organization, but having been a racer, I know it can be frustrating,” reflected Kutscher. “Last year’s event featured reigning world champion Marco Ardigó, as well as numerous world caliber drivers. This event should be nothing less, with major teams already committing a large presence. As a fan of the sport, this is the race to be at. Watching literally the best karters in the world get it on in a place like Vegas is a dream come true for any enthusiast. It’s going to be stellar.”

The 12th annual SuperNationals will be big on action but short on space. Log on to the official website starting midnight August 1st and make your reservations: http://www.skusasupernats.com
