Superkarts! USA Opens Registration Today for Pro Tour SummerNationals
Wednesday, 23 May 2012 09:39
The 2012 Superkarts! USA Pro Tour hit the ground running during the month of April with a record-breaking number of competitors at the MG Tires SpringNationals in Phoenix, Arizona. With the momentum flowing and excitement at an all-time high, another record number of entrants are predicted for the upcoming SKUSA SummerNationals, set for July 20-22 at the first-class Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah. Registration for rounds three and four of the Pro Tour open today at the skusastore.com webpage, and racers are encouraged to get their entries in quickly as more than one class is expected to sell out.

Miller Motorsports Park is a 511-acre multi-purpose facility that includes a 4.5-mile road course, the longest in North America, as well as a 0.9-mile karting circuit that will host the 2012 SummerNationals. Opened in 2006, the facility has hosted a number of national karting events as well as the Utah Kart Championship (UKC) series. The July 20-22 event will be the first SKUSA Pro Tour event at the facility, although SKUSA will make its debut at the circuit June 1-3 with the running of the second stop of the Rocky Mountain ProKart Challenge. The RMPKC event will be run in conjunction with the UKC, and will be the final time racers will have a chance to compete on the same layout that will be utilized for the SummerNationals. Miller Motorsports Park will also be hosting a “SummerNationals 100” team endurance race on Thursday evening, July 19, starting at 6pm with their rental kart fleet. All attendees will be eligible to participate in this 100-lap, 20-team event, and sign-up information with pricing will be available soon in the UKC news section at millermotorsportspark.com.

The SKUSA Pro Tour chase for points will enter phase two when the competitors hit the SummerNationals in July. The 2010 S1 champion Fritz Leesmann leads the Pro Stock Moto category over rookie Joey Wimsett and defending champ Daniel Bray. Arizona driver Phil DeLaO swept the action at the SpringNationals in the TaG Senior division, giving him maximum points in the championship chase thus far. Canadians Remo Ruscitti and Michael Valiante sit second and third. Sabré Cook became the first female driver to lead the Pro Tour standings in any division, as her two runner-up performances in April have her on top of the S2 Semi-Pro Stock Moto class. Round one winner Cody Tracy is currently second, and Colorado driver Christian Bird sits third. Utah driver Eddie Olpin will enjoy a home event at the SummerNationals while leading the S4 Master Stock Moto category. Texan Chris Jennings fought his way to sit second, while last year’s #3 SKUSA plate holder Lance Lane remains third. Paul Bonilla nearly pulled off an event sweep in Phoenix, earning both main event victories in the TaG Master division. The 2011 vice-champion David Harwin is second with Chuck Gafrarar in third, followed by a host of others still in the chase.

The S5 Junior Stock Moto category is led by two Arizona drivers -- Jim McKinney and Micah Hendricks. Each scored a main event victory during the SpringNationals, with McKinney holding a 10-point advantage heading into the SummerNationals. Pro Tour rookie Luke Selliken is on top of the TaG Junior division following his two-win weekend in Arizona. Brenden Baker and Utah driver Austin Versteeg trail Selliken in the standings. The racing in TaG Cadet was exciting once again during the April event. July should be no different, with Hunter Corbitt in the point lead over Anthony Sawyer and Hunter Kelly.

By visiting http://www.skusastore.com, racers can complete their online race registration and ensure that they are entered for the 2012 SKUSA SummerNationals. The 2011 Pro Tour champs -- as part of the SKUSA ‘Circle of Champions’ program -- will again be awarded free entry, tires and fuel for this event as part of their prize package from last season, and can contact the SKUSA office when ready to finalize their free entry for this event.

All event details, including host hotel information, a tentative event schedule and the track/venue information will be published on the series link at the SKUSA website as it becomes available (www.superkartsusa.com/national/skusa-pro-tour.html). Reservations for pit spots, camping, tents and garages will also be detailed on the website, but all drivers must be registered to race prior to the team submitting these reservation requests. Teams looking for prime pit/garage selections can help secure their spot by signing up for a class/event sponsorship -- with the SpringNationals sponsors having the first choice of the SummerNationals opportunities.
