Race Numbers
You will be assigned your unique and official kart number (with regional letter designator) when you purchase or renew your SKUSA membership and/or register for your first race of the season. This number/letter combo is required on all 4 sides of your kart for all competition sessions. NOTE: The qualifying 2011 PKC South and North class champions (as listed here) have the option of running their earned championship single-digit race number (with letter designator) if running in the same class this season. SKUSA's National Number plate winners -- 1st thru 3rd for the 2011 Pro Tour -- may race with their national number plates as well (as approved by SKUSA). Race Number Panels
SKUSA requires specific COLORED NUMBER PANELS by class for all 2012 race events. This is a tech item. Click here for the details on these color requirements, as well as contact info for our preferred vendor in Southern California.
Race Numbers and Race Number Panels are TECH ITEMS and
Non-Compliance will be subject to PENALTIES.
Weight Change
Effective January 1, 2012, the S2 class weight minimum has been adjusted to 385 lbs.
Stock Honda Cylinder Declaration
Effective 1/19/12 - There has been much discussion and debate regarding the various stock Honda cylinders allowed in SKUSA competition, and how they affect performance at different tracks.
In the interest of controlling racing costs, maintaining fairness and promoting uniformity between the various SKUSA series and regions across the US, each Stock Honda driver will now have to declare a cylinder at his/her first race of the season (for each SKUSA series), and then not vary this cylinder version for the rest of the season. For example, if a driver is running a ‘99 cylinder for ProKart Challenge at the Buttonwillow event on Feb. 11, the driver must run a 99 cylinder for the other 5 PKC races of the season. The cylinder will now be a tech item on the Pre-Tech Certification Form.
Neck Brace rule
Effective 1/1/11, neck braces are only mandatory for the SKUSA junior categories (including S5, TaG Cadet, and TaG Junior). See Rulebook section 10.4.2.5.
Rear Protection
Effective 1/1/11, all competitors in SKUSA events are required to have full width rear protection. See Rulebook section 20.2.4.4.
Spec Tires

A total of two (2) front and two (2) rear Race Tires are allowed PER RACE DAY. However, a competitor can choose to run the same two (2) front and two (2) rear Race Tires for multiple Race Days.

Race Tires are defined as ”stamped” spec tires purchased from PKC. To insure availability, Race Tires should be ordered from PKC prior to the Wednesday immediately preceding the event. Race Tires may be ordered for pickup at the event or drop-shipped prior to the event to locations within the continental US.

MG White Type “MG-SK”is the spec Race Tire and the only slick that can be used in qualifying, heats, and mains for all classes except TaG Cadet. MG Red Type “MG-HZ” is the spec Race Tire for TaG Cadet.

In the event that a 'rain race' is declared by the race director, the official spec 'rain' tire starting with the 2012 season is the new MG-WT "wet" tire ONLY (although the older MG-WZ rain tire will also be allowed). If such tires are used during a competition session, they will be marked by the technical officials at the end of the session and will be the only set of rain tires the competitor may use for the balance of the event. Either new or previously used MG-WT (or MG-WZ) rain tires may be utilized, and do not need to be "stamped" by the PKC Tire Desk.

The PKC Tire Desk will be open on Friday practice days and Saturday race days per the posted event schedule. Competitors are required to pick up their set of stamped Race Tires (slicks) during these time periods, unless they were shipped ahead of time (or a previously stamped set are being re-used). Only Race Tires (slicks) received from the PKC Tire Desk (or stamped race tires drop-shipped by PKC) are eligible for competition at each event.

Practice tires are open spec.
Spec Fuel and Oil

VP MS98is the spec fuel that must be used at all PKC events, although Rotax racers can opt to use "racer-supplied" VP MS93.

Motul 2T Grand Prix is the spec oil.
Practice and Qualifying -- all classes

Transponders are required in all practice and race competition sessions on Saturday. As such, you will not be allowed on the track without a transponder and will be black-flagged if passings are not being registered (consistent with your assigned transponder code) on the T&S system.

Anyone who misses their qualifying session or is in the wrong qualifying session will be assigned a “no time” and start at the back of the field in their respective class for their next competition session.
Engine Changes
The following language supersedes section 20.3.1.9 of the SKUSA 2012 Rule Book. The intent for allowing engine changes during an event is to recover from a component failure and NOT to take advantage of brand/model specific performance characteristics for a given track configuration.

Each driver must write the engine serial number on the Pre-Tech Certification Sheet that is turned in prior to qualifying. If your stock Honda has a unique number stamped on it, please use that. Note: Hondas built from kits do not have serial numbers. In this case, a numbered engine seal will be included in the driver’s registration package. The driver is responsible for recording the seal number on the pre-tech sheet in the engine serial number box, as well as installing the seal – prior to qualifying – on the front “unused” motor mount, directly below the exhaust pipe flange on the cylinder (or on another location on the kart that has been pre-approved by the Tech Director). This seal must remain in place for the duration of the event. See the event Tech Director for additional assistance.

Engines and/or components will be "painted" by the event technical staff at the post qualifying weigh-in.

Event technical staff may inspect an engine's serial number and/or "paint" at any time during the event.

Any engine change subsequent to qualifying MUST be pre-approved by the event Tech Director and if not, will result in a DQ and loss of points for ALL prior race sessions and a last place start in the next race session.

It is solely the driver's responsibility to solicit and receive an engine change approval form from and executed by the event Tech Director. It is also the driver’s responsibility to demonstrate engine damage in order to get Tech Director approval to change engines. If the competitor is unable to demonstrate damage, one additional engine (total of 2) may be approved by the event Technical Director. If approved, the competitor will start the next competition session at the back of the lineup.

For TaG classes only, a competitor must declare an engine brand at their first PKC competition session. For the rest of the PKC series, only one engine brand change is allowed and such change may not be made during a race weekend. Note: Should a competitor not declare an engine brand explicitly, the engine brand used in their first competition session will be deemed an implicit declaration.
Pre-Tech
PKC employs a self-certification form to facilitate pre-tech inspection. The driver initials and signs the form to certify that the listed items are in compliance. The form is then submitted on the grid for qualifying. Drivers are not allowed out for qualifying without turning in an executed pre-tech form. Spot checks of safety items will be made throughout the event and violations may result in penalty assessments. Click Here to download Pre-Tech Form.
Dead Engine Pits
Other than on the track, the only places where a kart can be moving under its own power are (i) in the pre-grid areas, (ii) in the Hot Pit and (iii) in the exit lane leading to the scales. Karts must be pushed from pits to the pre-grids and from scales to the pits.
