CIK Rule Book: Section 20.3.3 of the SKUSA 2006-07 rule book states “FIC Engine Specifications: All CIK-FIA Rules and Regulations for ICC engines, standards and their components will be enforced unless specificed otherwise in this rulebook.” Click here for a copy of the CIK/FIA Karting Technical Regulations.
Engine Changes: The following language supersedes section 20.3.1.9.1 in the SKUSA 2006-07 Rule Book:The intent for allowing engine changes during an event is to recover from a component failure and NOT to take advantage of brand/model specific performance characteristics for a given track configuration.
- The engine serial number shall be entered by each driver on the Pre-Tech Certification form that is turned in prior to qualifying.
- Engines and/or components will be “painted” by the event technical staff at the post qualifying weigh-in.
- Event technical staff may inspect an engine’s serial number and/or “paint” at any time during the event.
- Any engine change subsequent to qualifying MUST be pre-approved by the event Tech Director and if not, will result in a DQ and loss of points for ALL prior race sessions and a last place start in the next race session
- Change to a brand or model not identical to the original engine is NOT allowed and will result in a DQ and loss of points for the entire event. Note: Engine builder is not a factor in determining same brand/model.
- It is solely the driver’s responsibility to solicit and receive an engine change approval form executed by the event Tech Director.
- For TaG classes only, a competitor must declare an engine brand prior to their first PKC competition session. For the rest of the PKC series, only one engine brand change is allowed and such change may not be made during a race weekend. Note: Should a competitor not declare an engine brand explicitly, the engine brand used in their first competition session will be deemed an implicit declaration.
S3/S4 - Cylinders: ‘97 cylinders are legal. On track and dyno testing (including SuperNats X and XI competition) has shown that the ‘97 cylinders are, at best, comparable to ‘99-’01 cylinders. This change is in recognition of the fact that Honda has freely substituted ‘97 cylinders in ‘99 kart engine kits. On all Honda cylinders, some factory grinding, done prior to the Nikasil process is present. The Technical Director reserves the right to approve or disapprove any cylinder supplied by Honda and not modified. In other words: Some stock O.E.M. cylinders may not be acceptable for SKUSA competition.
S5 - Spec Honda Jr.: All S3/S4 rules apply with the following exceptions:
- RLV 0300 (red) or RLV 0301 (black) air box - 23mm tubes only
- Exhaust restrictor plate with SKUSA logo and serial number (available from SKUSA only at $35+shipping)
- 340lbs kart+driver weight
- Age 12-15
TaG Starter Batteries: Starter batteries must be of a sealed or dry cell design and securely mounted.
TaG Auxiliary Starters:
- The intent of this rule update is to allow temporary auxiliary starting for TAG engines in the event of a starter system failure. It is not intended to replace the on-board system. As such, use of an auxiliary starter on consecutive race days could result in penalties being assessed.
- In the event of a starting system component failure, an auxiliary starter may be used without penalty.
- Regardless of the starting method employed, all starting system components (including charging system) must be installed per OEM specifications at all times. Failure to comply with this requirement will result in disqualification.
- Any competitor using auxiliary starting may be subject to additional tech to verify complete starter system installation and legitimate component failure at the discretion of the Race Director.
Air Filters: If allowed by track management, Moto engines in S1, S3, S4 and G1 have the option of airboxes or air filters. CalSpeed and Qualcomm allow air filters on Moto engines in lieu of airboxes.
Spec Tires:
- Race Tires are defined as ”serialized” spec tires purchased from PKC as part of the entry process. A minimum of one (1) set of Race Tires must be purchased per 2-day event. To insure availability, Race Tires should be ordered from PKC prior to the Wednesday immediately preceding the event.
- MG Yellow Type “PKC-MZ” is the spec Race Tire and the only slick that can be used in qualifying, heats, and mains. Competition rain tires are open spec, but must be new with whiskers.
- A total of two (2) front and two (2) rear Race Tires are allowed PER RACE DAY. However, a competitor can choose to run the same two (2) front and two (2) rear Race Tires both Race Days.
- Should the Race Director declare a wet race, a maximum of one (1) set of “marked” rain tires may be utilized PER RACE DAY.
- The Tire Desk will be open Friday, Saturday an Sunday mornings. Competitors are required to pick up their one (1) or two (2) sets of serialized Race Tires (slicks) and have a minimum of one (1) and a maximum of two (2) sets of participant supplied rain tires (mounted OK) marked during these time periods. Only Race Tires (slicks) received from the Tire Desk and rain tires marked by the Tire Desk are eligible for competition at this event.
- Tires used in practice and warm-up sessions are open spec.
G1 and TaG Master age certification: At registration, present your birth certificate or current drivers license for age confirmation.
- For G1, your birth date must be prior to 12/31/1976 to be eligible.
- For TaG Master, your birth date must be prior to 12/31/1978 to be eligible.
S4 age/weight certification: At registration, present your birth certificate or current drivers license for age confirmation.
- If your birth date is after 12/31/1973, you will be weighed with optionally (i) full driving gear (suit, shoes, rib vest, gloves, helmet) or (ii) street clothes. There can be no added weight beyond the above described accessories and you must weigh a minimum of 200lbs to be eligible.
TaG Rotax: All engine components and installation requirements are to meet RMC (Rotax Max Challenge) rules.
- Jetting – open jetting as per published IKF and TAG/USA. Due to the wide variety of altitude and other environmental factors present in the United States most organizations allow such jetting changes. #40 slide must be retained.
- Engine tech seals — may be run with or without seals but must meet all RMC rules as above. Competitor will be responsible for any resealing required after technical inspection.
NEW RULE 3/14/08 -- ROK TT: While there has been considerable discussion and controversy concerning the TT engine recently, SKUSA has remained unconvinced that the approach some other organizations have chosen is the correct one for our members. Basically one issue to keep in mind is that both organizations that have released significant rule changes run the engine at the same weight as Leopards. SKUSA does not, and has chosen not to implement most of those changes at this time. This will allow heavier drivers to chose engines which may have more horsepower. WKA and IKF both have two differences to their rules from the other two organizations:
- A 15 lb weight difference to Leopard engines
- Use of an WKA/IKF legal air cleaner adapter which is now referred to in "Stars" rules as "flat back adapter". This adapter is described in the WKA Tech Manual section 551.2b or IKF Tech Manual section 603.1.3 Note that Tony Kart USA, Tony Kart Florida and J3 Performance have all been made aware of this and are complying.
Effective 3/15/08 we will implement the following changes:
- ROK TT weight raised to 375# (Senior) or 415# (Masters)
- Standard, non velocity stack style air cleaner adapter as described above.
- Fitment of a .1mm head shim
- Timing limited to 20 degrees BTDC
- Anyone in the wrong practice group will forfeit the next practice session (if the last practice session for the day, forfeit the warm-up the next morning).
- Transponders are required in all practice and race competition sessions on Saturday. As such, you will not be allowed on the track without a transponder and will be blackflagged if passings are not being registered (consistent with your assigned transponder code) on the T&S system.
- Anyone who misses their qualifying session or is in the wrong qualifying session will be assigned a “no time” and start at the back of the field in their respective class.
Spec Fuel and Oil: VP MS98 for ICC, TaG (including Rotax)and Spec Honda. VP C12 for built motos (S1,G1). Motul Kart Grand Prix 2T is the spec oil. Mixing ratio is not controlled.
Pre-Tech: PKC employs a self-certification form to facilitate pre-tech inspection. The driver initials and signs the form to certify that the listed items are in compliance. The form is then submitted on the grid for qualifying. Drivers are not allowed out for qualifying without turning in an executed pre-tech form. Spot checks of safety items will be made throughout the event and violations may result in penalty assessments. Click Here to download Pre-Tech Form.
Dead Engine Pits: Other than on the track, the only places where a kart can be moving under its own power are (i) in the pre-grid areas, (ii) in the Hot Pit and (iii) in the exit lane leading to the scales. Karts must be pushed from pit to the pre-grids and from scales to the pit.
Pit Vehicles and Pets on Premise: Please refer to the Venue Information page of each event for venue specific rules.
