EKN Trackside: 2014 Superkarts! USA Pro Tour SpringNationals – Sunday Report

The 2014 Superkarts! USA Pro Tour SpringNationals will go down as an historic, memorable and distinct event in North American karting history. Dallas Karting Complex hosted the final day of action with the record number of drivers taking to the Caddo Mills, Texas facility for Round Two of the weekend on a bright and warm Sunday.

Despite the eight drivers earning victories on course, and the $6,500 in prize money awarded, the day was marked with the loss of the CRG West trailer due to fire. An electrical fire sparked within the hauler, as the efforts of many throughout the paddock with fire extinguishers could not douse the flames and over 75% of the stacker trailer was lost. Thankfully, the quick actions of those surrounding that area of the paddock, and low wind speeds compared to that of previous days, the fire did not spread to any other tent or trailer. The Superkarts! USA and Dallas Karting Complex staff came together during a time of danger, the pits were evacuated to help eliminate the chance of danger, and no person was hurt. The Kacic family will rebound and recover from their lose, and the karting family is behind them 100%.

The delay in the day’s activities did not hamper the action on track, with the SKUSA staff and racers pushing through to get all the scheduled laps completed and nearly back on schedule with the final checkered flag. Eight drivers claimed victory to complete the weekend, with a number of repeat winners returning to the top of the podium. Read the full story on eKartingNews.com

EKN Trackside: 2014 Superkarts! USA Pro Tour SpringNationals – Saturday Report

High grip and ultra-competitive racing was the theme for the opening day of action at the SKUSA SpringNationals. The tough conditions made it tough on the drivers and put the mechanics to work trying to eliminate grip, and this separated the field into the ‘haves’ and ‘have-nots’ in terms of workable chassis set-up. The weather was perfect, with warm temperatures, blue skies and a light breeze. The Dallas Karting Complex has offered up an incredible atmosphere and with over 240 drivers in the paddock, the main events had everyone fired up. The arrival of a group of European factory drivers turned the S1 class into international warfare, while the 40-kart TaG Senior field battled from front to back. Jordan Lennox steered his PSL Karting CRG to the win in the S1 Pro Stock Moto class, just outrunning Nick Neri (OGP/Tony Kart), while Jake Craig (2Wild Karting/Tony Kart) bested a full field of TaG Seniors, including DKC/SodiKart USA team pilot Louie Pagano. The SKUSA Pro Tour is now underway, and the journey to the #1 plates has begun.

A record 26 drivers took to the track for the opening qualifying session of the 2014 season in S1. The best from North America have seen a Euro invasion this weekend, as four European pilots made their S1 debut at the SpringNationals. Early on, the Americas held the provisional pole position with Texan Conner Wagner (FA Kart) holding the position until rookie Oliver Askew (Tony Kart) jumped up to the top spot. After the halfway point, the Euros began creeping up the order, including CRG factory drivers Jordon Lennox-Lamb and Davide Forѐ. Three minutes remaining, Lennox stole the top spot from the Ocala Gran Prix driver, roughly a tenth quicker. That was his magic lap, pulling into pit lane and securing a new track record at 50.856-second. Askew settled for second with Forѐ third. Nick Neri (Tony Kart) was fourth with defending S1 champion Joey Wimsett (CRG) completing the fast five.  Read full story on eKartingNews.com
