We have received many requests and suggestions from the field to create a SuperNationals tribute to the late Dan Wheldon. Superkarts! USA is indeed working on an official and organized memorial program for this event, with the assistance of Dan’s close friends and family. We will release the details shortly and invite those interested to join us in honoring a true karting hero. |

While the 2011 Superkarts! USA season is yet to finish with the Streets of Lancaster Grand Prix and SuperNationals still to come, the organization is already looking toward the 2012 schedule. Beginning next year, SKUSA will mandate the MG-WT as the only rain tire legal for competition in the Pro Tour and any of their regional programs. Currently, the Bridgestone YJP, YKP, and YLP compounds are the only legal rain tires for Superkarts! USA-sanctioned events. The newly-designed MG-WT tire will be added to that list for the upcoming SKUSA SuperNationals and will assume the role as the lone spec wet tire in 2012.
“MG Tires has been the official tire of SKUSA since 2005, and this announcement exemplifies our commitment to their product,” commented SKUSA president Tom Kutscher. “For a number of years, we have utilized the Bridgestone wet tire as our spec tire for wet conditions. Now that MG Tires has made great advancements with their wet tire design and compound, it was in our best interest to move toward this decision. We will close out 2011 using both MG Tires and Bridgestone, and be exclusively on MG Tires for 2012 and beyond.”
MG Tires – the popular Brazilian-based tire manufacturer – has been making strides in improving each and every compound they offer, including the new MG-WT rain tire. The addition of the MG-WT tire to the Superkarts! USA tire specification further strengthens the relationship between the two companies. The MG-SK ‘SKUSA’ White tire was introduced at the beginning of 2011, and has received strong compliments from racers and industry members throughout the nation. Cadet racers continue to utilize the MG-HZ Red tires, which provide strong durability with optimal grip for the low horsepower category.
To help kick-start this new regulation, Kutscher and Superkarts! USA will offer a special introductory price of just $165 per set (plus shipping) for the first 100 sets of the MG-WT tires ordered directly from SKUSA. After this introductory rate expires, the tires will retail for $218 per set. |

As announced in May, Superkarts! USA and the City of Lancaster, California will be working together this year to promote the 2011 edition of the Streets of Lancaster Grand Prix, and plans are well underway in taking the race to the next level. The three-day karting festival will take place on the October 7-9 weekend and will serve as a final tune-up for the organization’s Pro Tour finale -- the SKUSA SuperNationals XV in Las Vegas in November. This year’s Streets of Lancaster GP will feature an updated schedule, a new class structure and a new track design for the third edition of the popular event.
The biggest change coming from the transition to SKUSA management will be an all-new and much safer track layout. The new course is a five-turn circuit that will come in at just over a 1/2-mile, highlighted by more run-off room and the elimination of the chicanes that caused many incidents last year. SKUSA will be bringing in their full supply of barriers, the same system used at the SKUSA SuperNationals, to outline the course in an effort to ensure that it will be safe for all competitors and spectators. The City of Lancaster is preparing the course area by repaving a larger percentage of the sections that will be used for the track, solidifying their support of the event for this year and beyond.

Round two of the 2011 Superkarts! USA Central States Challenge (SCSC) season is just around the corner as the program returns to the historic TNT Kartways in West Quincy, Missouri. The June 11-12 event marks the last series race before the second round of the SKUSA Pro Tour - the SummerNationals - in Colorado with a number of SCSC regulars using the weekend in Quincy to prepare for that trip while also shaping the championship hunt for the regional titles.
Built in 1961, TNT Kartways is one of the oldest karting circuits in North America with a rich history of the sports legends competing on its grounds. Just across the bridge over the Mississippi River sits Quincy, Illinois, the city that was host to the famous Grand Prix of Karting in South Park. The current track at TNT is at 4/10-mile, providing a challenging circuit for competitors. Friday, June 10 will be an optional practice day for competitors with the official event practice starting Saturday morning. Qualifying and the Prefinal will take place Saturday afternoon with warm-up and the Main Events scheduled for Sunday.
