SKUSA Bulletin: TaG Junior Finishing Order Reversal from SummerNationals
Tuesday, 25 August 2015 15:07

The filming of this year’s Fikse Wheels Pro Tour has been incredibly positive in terms of exposure and awareness for both the sport of karting and the Superkarts! USA program. The two shows that were produced from the recent SKUSA SummerNationals at New Castle Motorsports Park are scheduled for airing this month, with the first events being broadcast last Saturday and Sunday on the CBS Sports Network. The Greenlight TV cameras that were rolling all weekend in New Castle have also played a major role in the final official results of the event, as video footage from the TaG Junior race on Sunday has provided accurate visual confirmation of the side-by-side ‘photo’ finish between David Malukas and Brandon Lemke. Using the video provided by the camera crew, it has been confirmed that Lemke beat Malukas to the line, even though the transponders offered a 0.001-second win for Malukas.

Upon seeing the footage, Superkarts! USA National Race Director Terry Bybee and President Tom Kutscher discussed the matter, and it was unanimously agreed that the win must be awarded to Lemke based on the new evidence. Using this particular event as a catalyst for improvement, SKUSA will now implement a Finish Line camera for all future Pro Tour events to provide for video confirmation of finishes of a close nature.

“Our goal is to provide a fair racing experience for all of our drivers, and the video evidence that we were presented with provided clear-cut proof that Brandon Lemke was indeed the winner of the TaG Junior final during the Sunday event at the SummerNationals,” offered Bybee. “We’ll use this experience to improve our program and we’ll be adding a finish line camera at all future events.”

It has been over two months since the California ProKart Challenge was trackside for the 2015 season. After the long break following the Sonoma round in June, the Superkarts! USA flagship regional program returns to action on August 28-29 at the historic Adams Motorsports Park in Riverside, California. The challenging 3/4-mile course has a long history with the sport of karting, and has welcomed the California PKC a number of times. Series competitors are excited to return to action with the penultimate round in the championship chase setting up the storylines heading into the Streets of Lancaster Grand Prix at the end of September.

Christian Brooks and Austin Elliott have won the last three features in the Phil Giebler Racing TaG Senior category, and are the top two contenders in the championship chase. Brooks has two of the wins, putting him at the top of the point standings by just 108 over Elliott. Veteran Matt Johnson is third in the standings, and won last year’s round at Adams. Johnson needs another win to help put himself back into the title chase. Rookie Jarred Campbell continues to lead the Vemme Kart/Extreme Karting S1 Pro Stock Moto point standings. Two wins to open up the season propelled the 2014 S2 SuperNationals winner to the top, with two-time series champion Billy Musgrave closing in the last two rounds. The SummerNationals winner may have the momentum to cut into the 101-point advantage Campbell holds going into Adams.

CBS Sports Network Air Dates Set for Fikse Wheels Pro Tour SummerNationals
Friday, 14 August 2015 10:39

For the last 15 years, there have been countless discussions on the need to put karting on television. The argument has focused on the positive benefits that would be provided in terms of growing the sport and taking it to the public. Superkarts! USA believes in this concept, and as they continue in their position as a leader in the karting industry, always breaking new ground and taking the sport to higher levels, they are blazing the trail once again. Last year, SKUSA made a significant investment in the sport when they put the SuperNationals on the CBS Sports Network as part of a partnership with Greenlight Productions and TorqueTV, and this year’s opening round of the Fikse Wheels Pro Tour – the SpringNationals from Phoenix – was aired in May to kick off a full season of television coverage for the biggest national karting series in North America. The SummerNationals, which was held at the end of July at New Castle Motorsports Park in Indiana, is ready for its spotlight – and SKUSA is pleased to announce the airdates for this coverage.
