Midwest ProKart Challenge to Wrap Up 2012 Season at New Castle Motorsports Park
Tuesday, 14 August 2012 11:55
The Midwest ProKart Challenge will complete the 2012 season with the final two rounds of competition, held this weekend at the New Castle Motorsports Park. The popular Indiana facility will host its first Superkarts! USA regional event under the Midwest PKC banner with an encouraging number of competitors scheduled to take on the 1-mile course designed and owned by karting stalwart and former IndyCar driver Mark Dismore.

“I’m really excited for this weekend’s events and to close out the 2012 season,” commented Stan Bryniarski - Midwest ProKart Challenge director. “This year has been about growth and expanding the SKUSA-brand style of racing back to the Great Lakes area. The states and tracks in the region are second to none, and we have a lot of plans for the future of the series. I’d like to thank all those who supported the program this year, and the facilities that have welcomed us. This weekend will be a great ending and give competitors one final chance at SKUSA competition before they make the trek out to the SuperNationals in November.”

On the line this weekend will be guaranteed starting positions for the main events for the Midwest ProKart Challenge champions at the SKUSA SuperNationals XVI in Las Vegas. The points are tight in the TaG Master category with the title up for grabs between a number of drivers. Brian McHattie leads the championship chase thanks to a near perfect weekend at Road America that included one victory. John Dixon was the top driver at the opening two rounds, and trails by just five points. Thirty points behind him is Jim Russell Jr. with Chris Koster in the mix as well. The title in the S5 Junior Stock Moto class - sponsored by JD Byrider Racing - is hotly contested as well. Erik Nelson has four feature wins to his credit this season, but Collin Willis has been on his heels the entire time. A slip by Nelson could open the door for Willis to steal the title. Ron Peterson and Kris Dickson have battled all season in the S4 Master Stock Moto division. Peterson has the advantage heading into the season finale thanks to four feature victories.

Nick Lougee will wrap up the S2 Semi-Pro Stock Moto title but is expected to have some competition for the feature wins in New Castle this weekend. The same can be said for Nick Nufer, who has been perfect in TaG Cadet with some new drivers schedule to challenge for the top step of the podium. Tony Peterson leads the standings in TaG Junior heading into the weekend but a late charge by Nick Martin could see a fight for the title come to the final laps. Tommy Andersen has a clear advantage heading into the series finale weekend in the Kart Star Motorsports-sponsored TaG Senior division. Andersen won the opening two rounds at TNT Kartways, following it up with two runner-up finishes at Road America. Due to scheduling conflicts, Andersen will be unable to attend the series finale weekend. This may open up the door for someone to close the gap and hurdle him in the final standings.

Once again, the Midwest ProKart Challenge will open up the schedule for an Open Shifter category, as it has for the first two weekends of the season. In addition, Yamaha Senior and Yamaha Masters classes have been added to the class roster for the weekend, giving many local drivers the opportunity to compete under the Superkarts! USA banner. The Midwest PKC will host a pot luck BBQ, supplying an assortment of meats to all the competitors and families in attendance during the practice day. It is encouraged that teams bring a dish to pass around. Also Friday night, the track will host a 50-lap endurance race on the same configuration. Contact the New Castle Motorsports Park office for more information on entering a team.

Pre-race registration has been extended, closing on Wednesday, August 15 at Midnight at www.superkartsusa.com/rmmw-store with at-track entry beginning Friday, August 17 during the practice day, scheduled to run from 9am to 5pm. Saturday, August 18 will be the official start of the season finale weekend, with two practice sessions in the morning, followed by qualifying, two heat races and the feature. The same format will be followed on Sunday to complete the final round of competition for the 2012 Midwest ProKart Challenge season.
